Who Is New God of Cricket? Fans Vote for Top Player

This whole cricket poll thing started last Thursday when I was drinking chai and scrolling Twitter. Saw like three big cricket accounts all fighting about who’s the real king of the game now. Kohli this, Sharma that, some kid from England getting hype too. Got me thinking – why not just ask the fans? Felt simple enough.

Just Grabbed My Laptop & Started

Opened up Google Forms – dead simple, everyone knows it. Typed out the question straight: “Who is the new God of Cricket? Pick ONE.” Made it multiple choice ’cause man, open answers would’ve been chaos. Threw in six names: Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Suryakumar Yadav. Left an “Other” option too ’cause you know folks will complain otherwise. Added a quick note saying this ain’t official, just fun fan stuff.

Tried making it look kinda nice? Failed. Changed the form color to blue like Team India’s jersey, thought it was clever. Added a tiny cricket ball icon. Still looked basic as heck. Whatever, does the job.

The Messy Part: Getting Votes

Here’s where I scrambled. Shared that link EVERYWHERE I could think of:

Who Is New God of Cricket? Fans Vote for Top Player

  • Posted it on Twitter with some emojis (🏏🔥) and a desperate “PLZ VOTE & RT!”
  • Dropped it in five different cricket WhatsApp groups I’m in – family group, college buddies group, even the one for buying/selling old gear. Apologies sent for spamming.
  • Put it on my Facebook page (where my mom is my top fan, bless her).
  • Even stuck it on Instagram Stories with a shaky pic of my TV showing highlights.

Got roasted immediately. One mate replied, “You forgot [insert player]! Form cancelled!” Another guy just sent the skull emoji 💀. Ignored them mostly. Left it open for votes all weekend.

Numbers Started Piling Up

Checked Monday morning. Saw over 2,300 votes sitting there in the responses sheet. Surprised? Heck yeah. Scrolled down fast – Kohli had a HUGE chunk. Smith, Root, Babar were bunched up behind. SKY and Sharma had some, but less. “Other” had wild entries – mostly people typing “MS Dhoni” or random village players. Classic.

Wanted a cool chart. Clicked the “Responses” tab, hit “Create Summary”. Boom. Instant pie chart showing Kohli like a giant slice taking half the pie. Babar had a decent wedge. Others looked like small snacks. Made a screen snip. Easy.

Sharing the Hype

Didn’t overthink it. Wrote a quick post saying:

  • “Ran a little poll over the weekend just for laughs!”
  • “Massive thanks to everyone who voted! Over 2300 votes came flying in!”
  • “And the fans’ pick for the NEW GOD OF CRICKET is… drumroll Virat Kohli!”
  • Stuck that pie chart picture right below the text.
  • Added: “Babar Azam came in strong second! Surprised? Angry? Blame the fans, not me! 😉”

Leaked the results first to my main cricket WhatsApp group. Predictable chaos. The Babar fans were salty, the Kohli crew sent fire emojis. Perfect.

Posted the exact same thing with the pic on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Simple copy-paste job. Hit send. Grabbed more chai. Done.

Whole thing from idea to posting took less work than fixing my leaking tap. Fun to see who fans really back, even if it starts arguments! People like seeing numbers, even simple ones like this.
