So yesterday I got this idea stuck in my head: am I really playing the game that fits me best? I always jump between strategy stuff and quick action games, feeling torn. Figured it was time to actually put ’em head-to-head myself. Time for experiment mode.
Setting Things Up
First, I picked two games everyone talks about – let’s call them “Stonewall” (classic SLG) and “Blitz Rush” (pure Pir). Downloaded both fresh on my phone, cleared an hour each after work. Wanted a pure, scratch start. Felt like prepping for a little science fair project, honestly.
Started with Stonewall. First ten minutes? Brain fog. Tutorials everywhere:
- Tap here to build this hut.
- Swipe that way to move troops – but wait, not those troops.
- Collect wood, collect iron, collect some magic crystal dust.
- Wait 3 minutes for this upgrade, 10 minutes for that one.
Felt like doing homework. Kept checking the clock. Thought, “Is this fun? Or just chores pretending to be fun?” Realized I was stress-tapping waiting for timers. Not a great sign.
Switching Gears
Switched over to Blitz Rush. Boom. Immediate chaos. Bright colors flashing. Swipe, swipe, SWIPE. Enemies popping up left, right, center. No thinking allowed, just reacting.
- First round lasted maybe 90 seconds. Dead.
- Second round, got slightly further. Maybe 2 minutes? Dead again.
- Felt frantic, kinda twitchy. Heart rate probably went up.
It was loud, fast, and over almost before it started. Energy spike… then crash. Suddenly, all that waiting in Stonewall didn’t seem so bad?
The Real Test & Realization
Day two came. Saw the Stonewall icon and… hesitated. That commitment. Knew it needed a whole session. Saw Blitz Rush – thought, “eh, one quick round.” Played five rounds back-to-back without even realizing. Easy in, easy out. No planning paralysis.
But then… felt kinda empty afterward. Like eating candy for dinner. Stonewall? Actually remembered my little fortress later that night. Wondered how my troops were doing. Felt… invested? Even with the timers.
Here’s the messy truth I found:
- Want something to kill 5 minutes on the bus? Blitz Rush wins. Instant punch. Simple thrills.
- Want something to stick with, plan for, feel like you’re building something? Even with the frustration? Stonewall’s the slow burn.
My “aha” moment? It ain’t about which type is “better.” My Blitz Rush sessions fit a tired brain needing quick hits. Stonewall fits lazy Sundays when I want that slow-mo strategy itch scratched. Used to force myself to pick one. Nah. Now I just match the game to my mood. Way less frustrating. Experiment successful!
