So yesterday I got stuck on this word “chokli” while reading some article. It kept popping up and I kept forgetting what it meant every dang time. Figured I’d tackle this head-on since it was ruining my flow.
First Attempt: Rote Memorization
Grabbed a notebook and wrote “chokli = spotted cow” fifty times like we did in school. Felt pretty confident until I tried recalling it two hours later – my brain blanked completely. Just sat there staring at the wall thinking “uhhh… something with animals?” Total fail.
Second Attempt: Visual Tricks
Tried doodling a cow covered in polka dots next to the word. Even made a stupid rhyme: “Chokli the cow, look at her spots now!” Did a little dance while saying it (don’t judge). This kinda stuck better when I quizzed myself after lunch, but by bedtime I’d mixed it up with “dalmatian”. Close but no cigar.
The Breakthrough Moment
Scrapped everything next morning. Stared at “chokli” and randomly remembered chocolate-chip cookies with cow spots – don’t ask why. Made this ridiculous mental movie: a spotted cow baking cookies while shouting “CHOK-LIII!!” Like some fever dream.
- Wrote three sentences using “chokli”: my shoes got muddy like a chokli, Aunt Betty’s wallpaper is chokli-patterned, etc.
- Set phone alarms every 3 hours to test myself: 11am, 2pm, 5pm
- Whispered “spotted cow” whenever I drank water
How It Turned Out
By the 5pm alarm, I’d gotten it right five times straight without peeking. Even today when I saw “chokli” in another article, that deranged cookie-baking cow flashed in my head instantly. Mission accomplished. Still think my brain’s broken for needing this circus though.
