Setting up my dumb experiment
I grabbed three different types of files from my backlog:
- Small text documents like meeting notes
- Medium-sized PDF reports
- Massive image bundles from last year’s vacation
Just smashed the process button at 9AM sharp without changing anything on my dusty old laptop. Started my phone stopwatch like some amateur scientist. First shocker? That tiny text file took 40 seconds even though it was only two paragraphs. I was expecting blink-and-you-miss-it speed.
The waiting game begins
When I threw those vacation photos at it, man oh man. Made myself a coffee while watching that progress bar crawl slower than my grandma’s internet. Timer hit 11 minutes when it finally coughed up results. Meanwhile my buddy tried same-sized files on his fancy new machine – done in under 3 minutes. So obviously hardware matters way more than they advertise.
Surprise interruptions
Thought I’d be smart and process stuff while uploading videos to cloud storage. Big mistake. Timer went completely haywire – one medium PDF took 8 whole minutes when earlier tests took barely 2. Patterns I noticed
After a whole day of starting/stopping timers like a madman:

- Image batches between 5-15 minutes based on size
- Video processing? Yeah I gave up timing after 20 minutes
- Browser extensions secretly eating resources added 20%+ time
Honestly thought there’d be some magic formula. Turns out it’s about as predictable as my toddler’s nap schedule. Only guarantee is bigger files = longer waits. Now I just hit process before bathroom breaks or coffee runs. If it finishes early? Bonus free time to scroll memes.
