Getting Started on My Bumrah Height Investigation
So I was scrolling Twitter yesterday when this debate about Jasprit Bumrah’s height popped up. Some guy claimed he’s barely 5’9″, others swore he’s 6’2″. Got me curious since I’m always fact-checking athlete stats.
First thing I did was hit Google with “Bumrah official height”. Big mistake. Results were all over the place – cricket fan forums quoting anything from 5ft 8in to 6ft 1in. IPL sites contradicted ICC records. What a circus.
My Deep Dive Strategy
Decided to go old-school with my fact hunt:
- Dug through match footage where he stands beside other players
- Checked every “official” source I could find
- Even paused live games to compare him to stumps (those are 28 inches each!)
Found a video where he’s interviewing with Virat Kohli, who’s officially 5’9″. Clearest evidence ever – Bumrah slouched and still towered over him by a good couple inches. Did screenshot measurements like a madman zooming in on pixels.
The Final Verdict
After wasting three hours on this rabbit hole:
- Confirmed stumps comparison puts him between 5’11” and 6’0″
- Match footage next to Sharma (6’0″) shows near identical height
- All IPL official docs now list him at exactly 182 cm (that’s 5ft 11.5in)
Why’s this such a mess? Turns out early career reports mixed up his U-19 stats. Some lazy journalist probably copied wrong numbers years ago and it snowballed. Moral of the story? Never trust random tweets about athlete measurements.
